About Lavon & Carolyn Waters
We began our missionary service in 1958. Our first field was the country of Uruguay, South America., arriving on the field in September of 1959 having made the trip by ship (freighter) from New Orleans to the port of Montevideo. The Lord had blessed us with two children by that time; Connie who was almost two and Joy who was only 5 months old. We lived and worked in Uruguay for a little over 11 years having started three churches and a Bible Institute. We also worked in a youth camp ministry with another missionary. While we were in Uruguay, we had two more children. Patricia was born with Spina Bifida and only lived 4 months. She is buried in the British Cemetery in Montevideo. Our son David was born three years later.

We felt the Lord leading us to another field - possibly Paraguay or Bolivia, but He had other plans for us. A missionary who visited in our home spoke to us about the opening of the country of Spain for foreign missionaries. At once we knew that was where God wanted us to go. We turned the works over to the national pastors, spent a few months in the U.S.A. and left for Spain in 1971.

Our work in Spain has consisted of trying to establish local Baptist churches, help organize a Bible Institute for training nationals and a youth camp ministry. You can read a short history of our local church ministries in Spain under the “Local Churches” tab.

God has blessed us by calling all of our children into fulltime service. Those of you who have supported our ministry during the past 56 years have played a vital role in what God is doing today with our family.
